Virginia Highlands Community College is pulling together an event to help people in the community.

The event is called the Richard Leigh Songwriters' Festival. It's named after a Grammy award-winning alumnus. The proceeds from the tickets are going to a program called Great Expectations to help make community college education available and accessible for all foster youth in Virginia.

"It's going to make a great impact on the community, both in terms of awareness and helping raise resources for this terrific little program that is so near and dear to my heart, Great Expectations," said Anne Holton, program director.

The festival will be on May 18 at Virginia Highlands Community College and tickets are now on sale.
