Victim describes home invasion; still shaken-up
A Saltville, Virginia family is still shaken up after police say a man broke into their home Sunday morning.
Saltville police and Smyth County deputies arrested 33-year-old Justin Olinger of Glade Spring, Virginia after they say he broke into a home on Lick Skillet Road.
We spoke with one of the residents of that home, Chad Neal, who told us he, his fiancé, and his daughter were all asleep in the living room Sunday morning, when he said Olinger busted through their door that was locked with a deadbolt.
Neal said he couldn't grab a nearby shotgun in time, but he pushed the suspect back toward the wall, and the struggle continued.
"He just kept talking a fussing with us. He called us by different names," said Neal. "I had no idea what he was talking about, but he said he would slice our throats," he added.
Neal said Olinger eventually left after about 20 minutes inside their home.
Police said the suspect did have a knife in his possession.
Olinger is charged with breaking and entering, carrying a concealed weapon destroying property, and possessing a switch blade knife.
He is being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail without bond.
