A Gulf war veteran walking from Arizona to D.C. is passing through the Tri-Cities.
Steven Jacoby was in the Air Force and worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Arizona for about three years.
He says he uncovered financial waste and abuse by a few corrupt executives in the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System.
He says he hopes his journey to D.C. raises awareness about the problems.
"(Executives were) taking money from our veterans who fought for our country who have lost limbs. They have scars and mental and physical problems and their medical care isn't what it could be," said Steven Jacoby.
Jacoby goes on to say that the Department of Veterans Affairs has many wonderful employees and that the issues involve a few bad apples.
He's trying to set up meetings with lawmakers and military leaders on Capitol Hill.
So far he's walked about 1,900 miles in hopes of drawing attention to the alleged embezzling of funds.
News 5 called the Department of Veterans Affairs in Prescott, Arizona this afternoon. A spokeswoman told us they respect what Mr. Jacoby is doing but they also respectfully declined to comment on his claims.
