The man accused of falsely reporting a gunman on the University of Virginia's College at Wise last month will undergo a competency evaluation.

According to the Bristol Herald Courier, the attorney for Bryant Hairston asked for a psychiatric evaluation.

The records filed in U.S. District Court in Abingdon say federal prosecutors agreed to the screening as long as it is performed by the government.

Hairston was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday. That has been postponed until after the evaluation.

Federal authorities charged Hairston with filing a false report that shut down the campus on January 23rd.
