UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. -

A traffic stop ends with deputies searching the woods throughout the night for a suspect in handcuffs. It happened in Unicoi County and the suspect was wanted in New York State on a parole violation.

A quiet street wasn't so quiet the last few days, that's because deputies were busy searching for Marquies Milligan. Early Friday morning deputies with the Unicoi County Sheriff's Department stopped when they saw three people sleeping outside of their car. "My officers checked the tag on the vehicle and it came back stolen," said Sheriff Mike Hensley.

Sheriff Hensley says that car was reported stolen from New York and all three suspects were handcuffed. But Milligan ran into the woods, eventually broke free from his handcuffs, and spent the night hiding.

"He actually had a key, he had it on him. He's been in trouble before and it's not uncommon," added Sheriff Hensley. He said there were extra officers keeping a close eye on homes on Powder Branch Road.

News 5 also learned, deputies believe Milligan stole another car but this one was from Unicoi County. Milligan was arrested Saturday afternoon at a nearby motel. "Myself and another officer blocked him in and when he saw what was going on he did try to run us over, he did actually hit our vehicle," said Sheriff Hensley.

Milligan is facing felony charges which come with serious consequences and Sheriff Hensley says Milligan will eventually be turned over to New York authorities. "I prayed that we could get him in custody and nobody would get hurt and prayers were answered," said Sheriff Hensley.

News 5 learned the other two people with Milligan, Shannon Richards and Wesley McDuffie, are also facing charges.
