SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. -

Sullivan County commissioners are welcoming back a money saving strategy.

At their commission meeting Monday morning, county leaders approved reinstating the "cost of personnel reduction plan."

The plan lets department heads decide if they want to give eligible full-time employees the option to retire early with up to a $10,000 incentive.

Mayor Steve Godsey told News 5 the county did this a few years ago, but only the highway department participated.

"We're hoping some other departments this year will look at this and take it as an opportunity to reduce the number of full-time staff and maybe bring on some of the part-time positions and things and help us with this budget crunch, because you know it's not over," Godsey said.

We learned the school system is excluded from this plan.
