The Sullivan County Board of Education has postponed a special meeting that was scheduled for next Thursday, March 28.
This will delay a potential vote on possible school rezoning measures.
Sullivan County Director of Schools Jubal Yennie says, "many Sullivan County parents, students, and teachers have urged us to take more time in these deliberations, and we are honoring their requests. We will slow down the process, continue to weigh options and gather additional information about projected student enrollment, school building utilization and the impacts of potential rezoning."
Sullivan County was considering rezoning because of the decline of students over the years.
We've learned since the year 2000, district enrollment in kindergarten through 12th grade at Sullivan County schools has dropped by 2,445 students. Total K-12 enrollment is 10,603 students.
The Sullivan County Board of Education has requested that the city of Kingsport provide a detailed annexation plan by April 15, 2013.
