SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. -

A local high school band is hoping to win some prize money to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.

The Sullivan Central High School band has been nominated to be part of the Chase Community Giving contest. They need people to vote for them on the Chase Community Giving Facebook page. Click here to visit the page.

The band could win anywhere from $10,000 to $250,000, which can go a long way in keeping the program marching on. "We're in desperate need of some new instruments. We're using some timpanis [kettle drums] that are about 40 years old [and] some double reeds and tubas that are really old as well. So just an upgrade in our instruments would be absolutely phenomenal for the kids," said Chris Smithson, the band's director.

The contest ends September 19.
