The Kingsport Senior Center took time to recognize and honor veterans who are members of its center with a luncheon Monday.
Among the many who were recognized was Rogersville resident Edna Longwell, who made the transition from what was called the 'Women's Army Corps' to the modern version for women in today's armed services.
She told us she first had to meet a new weapons requirement. "[They said] 'we have a problem, you're not qualified with an M-16 weapon,'" she said. "'You're not compatible to all the other male soldiers who are qualified with an M-16 so we need to get you qualified.'"
Longwell's story is just one of the many changes many veterans have seen since their time of service.
