KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

Scams have hit the Tri-Cities once again; this time they are in Kingsport.

We spoke to the Kingsport Police Department, who told us they have seen an increase in scams and have had five to six calls in the last month of people falling for these false claims.

We've been told there isn't much the police department can do about them. Detective Sergeant Chris Tincher says if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. "It's a 100 percent preventable crime, but a person has got to exercise some common sense," said Tincher.

He told News 5 that if you are unsure if something is a scam, to call your local authorities; otherwise ignore it because it could be a scam.
