A new report released shows the harsh impact synthetic drugs that mimic marijuana have on those who use them.
According to the report, K2, spice and other fake pot drugs sent over 11,400 people to the emergency room in 2010.
Herbal incense emerged in 2009 as a popular drug among teenagers and college students who could purchase it online or in convenience stores.
But now, the first report to analyze the impact of it found children ages 12 to 17 accounted for one-third of the emergency room visits. Young adults, 18 to 24, accounted for the other 35 percent.
The National Drug Control Policy says synthetic drugs cause substantial damage to public safety.
