After two years of planning, the Carolina, Clinchfield and Ohio railroad depot in Johnson City is about to get a makeover.
We spoke to the co-developer, Greg Cox, who says once the historic zoning commission signs off on the plans, they can begin pulling permits and will start renovations in early February.
Cox says they plan to work on the building for up to eight months, but are hoping to be finished sooner. "The building is in great shape, it just needs a lot of love and attention, but structurally it's in great shape," said Cox.
Cox says the train station will have the Tupelo Honey Cafe located on the first floor with more than 20 office spaces on the second.
They hope to have the building up and running by January of 2014 at the latest.
