GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. -

Monday is a major decision day for Greene County, Tennessee commissioners.

The county commission is set to vote on a property tax increase to fund education.

County voters rejected a proposed $20.00 wheel tax increase during the August elections.

The county school system is short $1.2 million for this school year and could be forced to close an elementary school. Because of the shortfall, the school has delayed the start of the year until August 15th. They were suppose to return on August 8th.

Commissioners are considering a $0.13 property tax increase. The meeting begins at 9:00 Monday morning with a public hearing.
