Possible breach of confidentiality in NC hospice
According to the Associated Press, Hospice of Alamance/Caswell has told patients and families about a possible breach of personal information.
The Times-News of Burlington reported the breach could have occurred following a February break-in.
More than 5,000 current and past Hospice and LifePath Home Health patients or their families have been notified about the possible breach.
Hospice is offering free credit monitoring for a year and is recommending that those notified should place a fraud alert with credit bureaus.
Hospice executive director Peter Barcus says he doesn't think the vandals were looking for patient information, but it is possible.
There is no indication so far that any patient information has been accessed or used.
Two men have been charged with the break-in.
