Pigeon Forge opens new city park
The Smoky Mountains foothills city of Pigeon Forge is dedicating a new park.
The first phase of the Wear Family City Park will be opened with a ceremony and a celebration, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The park is a half-mile off the parkway on Wears Valley Road.
The city is developing the 118 acres for recreation, both for local residents and visitors. The first 40 acres includes five lighted baseball and softball fields, a lighted football field, a playground, two shelters, a basketball court, concession stands, restrooms and walking trails.
Opening-day festivities include popcorn, hot dogs and a fireworks display.
There will be old-time games, including sack races, pin the tail on the donkey, corncob darts and corn hole.
Guests on Friday will get T-shirts and commemorative gifts.
