ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. -

Trick or treating is all about candy, and downtown Elizabethton gave children a different option to getting some of their favorites.

Trick or treaters of all ages walked the streets of downtown Elizabethton, where businesses set up shop outside for a Halloween tradition, to support the local community.

This year trick or treaters braved the winter weather.

"There's still lots of people here, and plenty of trick or treaters," said Rayelee Sheppard who was passing out candy.

Parents say going business to business is safe and they don't have to worry about traffic.

Jessica Norris said, "We take them to places we know. We know they are going to be safe, and we won't let them two feet out of our sight."

And many children said they weren't finished yet. Many planned on trick or treating in neighborhoods and trunk or treating as well.
