One of the last housecall doctors now gone

Dr. Norman Ratliffe died August 5

DICKENSON COUNTY, Va. -

He spent 58 and a half years on the job, had only retired last month; sadly, a man known as an "institution" in Dickenson County, Virginia died on August 5. 

Doctor Norman Clydlee Ratliffe lived in Clintwood and still made house calls throughout the county. He was 86 years old when he passed away after a brief illness on August 5.

Doctor Ratliffe leaves behind his son Norman, of Clintwood, his daughter Rebecca Scariano, of Knoxville and three grandchildren.

Clintwood Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements. Doctor Ratliffe's daughter ask that instead of flowers, to please make a donation to the Dickenson County Food Bank in his honor.

There will be a candlelight service for Dr. Ratliffe in front of his office at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7.
