LEE COUNTY, Va. -

A police K9 that went missing from the back of his partner's patrol car has been found dead.

We talked with Lee County, Virginia Sheriff Gary Parsons and he says the county's K9 Chase went missing on Monday when his partner was using the restroom at a county park.

Friday night the sheriff's department found the dog's body on the side of Route 606, about two miles from where the dog disappeared.

Sheriff Parsons believes someone took the dog from the patrol car.

The cause of the dog's death is under investigation.
