As our nation celebrates Thanksgiving family and friends gathered around tables to enjoy a traditional meal, for some in the community a hot turkey dinner was brought to their front door, delivered by volunteers with Meals on Wheels.
Thursday morning before sitting down to their own feast, Nancy and Louis Hyde are making sure others have something to eat on Thanksgiving.
After picking up the meals at the Haven of Rest, their first stop is the home of 92-year-old Hazel Bryan. "It's wonderful. I always fixed [dinner] until this year and I just can't do it now," says Bryan.
Bryan adds the holiday wouldn't be the same without the traditional meal and she's grateful for the delivery. "It's great because I’ve got a bad leg and it's hard for me to get up on it and do my cooking. When I do I just fix something that's easy to fix. I didn't cook a turkey or any of the stuff for Thanksgiving," she told us.
After a quick visit with Bryan, the Hydes were onto the next stop.
The deliveries continued throughout the morning, eight in all. That’s just a fraction of the 50 meals delivered throughout Bristol.
"It's a privilege for us to be able to do this. Help somebody enjoy Thanksgiving. They're all so appreciative that makes our thanksgiving even more," add the Hydes.
Those on the receiving end say this special delivery brings about the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
"If it wasn't for Meals on Wheels, I’d do without a lot of meals," adds Bryan.
