Marion holds vigil for shooting victims

28 names called and 28 candles lit; the town of Marion, Virginia gathered to remember the lives lost from Friday's shootings in Connecticut.

"You can see by the crowd that's here there's a lot of folks all over our country that are affected by this and it was a sad moment," says Smyth County superintendent of schools Mike Robinson.

This tragedy has hit every community hard and it seems everyone wants to pull together and just do something to try to help. "(It's an) opportunity to support the families in Newtown in our own small way," says Mayor David Helms.

Mayor Helms, who also used to be an elementary school principal, says what happened in that small town is an unthinkable act. "It makes you feel helpless really, that this could happen in a school system. And little kids, it's bad enough older kids, but little kids," he said.

Despite the cold weather people showed up to pray and mourn for the lives that were lost.
A candle, and a stuffed animal, just a small way to remember the victims, but a big way to bring the community together.

"We pull together, we worked with our schools as much as we can, and we're always there if they need any help," says Mayor Helms.
