Man faces over 100 charges related to child sex abuse
A Sullivan County man is behind bars facing more than 100 child sex abuse charges.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Department said they got a tip from Child Protective Services about a case involving possible child sex abuse after a juvenile victim came forward with information.
Detective Tracy Haraz said that lead them to search 55-year old Larry Sumner's home on Chadwell Road. She said they found evidence dating back to the early 1990's. "We found videos, pornography, magazines and sex toys. As well as the clothing he made the children wear," she said.
Sumner was indicted by the Sullivan County Grand Jury on Tuesday on 31 counts of rape, 31 counts of statutory rape, 31 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and 11 counts of contributing to the deliquency of a minor.
Authorities said those charges involve one victim and they think there are at least 9 other victims, which means more charges could be pending.
Haraz said that Sumner hired the victims, both males and females, in ages ranging from eight to 16, to help him do construction jobs. Detectives believe the victims knew each other.
"What's the worst of it is Mr. Sumner has no remorse except that he got caught," Haraz said. "His statement to me was he didn't see anything wrong with what he did and he couldn't believe someone actually told. And he enjoyed it."
Sumner is being held without bond.
Detectives said anyone else with information about the case if asked to come forward. The phone number for the Criminal Investigations Division is (423) 279-7506.
