Man arrested for attempted abduction

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. -

We have more facts for you this afternoon about a man who was arrested after a brief standoff with authorities in Washington County, Virginia.

Police went to arrest 22-year-old Dalton Wampler on Buck Bridge Road on Wednesday.

Washington County, Virginia's Sheriff, Fred Newman told us they had local warrants out for his arrest and they had been looking for Wampler for a few weeks.

Newman said his arrest Wednesday was from an attempted abduction of another person. "He did assault her pretty violently again from our understanding based on charges," said Newman.

Wampler is being charged with strangulation, abduction and malicious wounding. He is currently being held at the regional jail without bond.
