Tennessee's lieutenant governor says he will support a bill next session that would allow wine to be sold in supermarkets.

Currently wine can only be sold in liquor stores, but that's something some grocery stores would like to see changed. The bill has landed on legislators' desks several times over the years, but it has never had enough votes to pass.
"The time has come to make sure that bill passes," said Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey. "I'm in favor of it. It's an economic development issue in my opinion. It's an issue to bring more sales tax into the state of Tennessee. It will put us on par with surrounding states like Virginia and North Carolina."

Ramsey tells News 5 the bill could also allow liquor stores to sell more items that were previously banned.

Lawmakers head back to Nashville the second week of January.
