For months, construction in downtown Jonesborough has been a headache for local businesses, and now the town is trying to help boost their cash flow.
Starting Friday, August 3, "We Dig Jonesborough" kicks off on Main Street.
The idea is to get more shoppers downtown and boost business.
From August through September downtown stores will extend their hours to 8:00 on Friday Nights.
On Saturday mornings at 11:00, a different store will be "cashed mobbed", where local shoppers gather together to spend at least $20 each at a local store.
Business owners told News 5, getting more people downtown can go a long way for the entire community.
"Shopping local is helping feed my kids and taking them to dance class or whatever, and so, we're in turn supporting local businesses. We're at the farmer's market getting local produce for our cupcakes as much as we can so it all just helps everybody else," said Allison Winfield, owner of The Crazy Cupcake.
Friday nights, you can also catch some free music on the square.
