Lea Ann’s journey with the March of Dimes began with the premature birth of her daughter Presley on April 19, 2005. She weighed in at two pound and seven ounces.
Lea Ann joined the March of Dimes campaign in 2006 as a family team. After raising money as a family team in 2006 and 2007, Lea Ann endeavored to achieve more and continue to grow in her capacity to serve with the March of Dimes.
In 2008, Lea Ann and her family served as the Ambassador Family for the Appalachia Division.
In her capacity as the 2008 Ambassador Family, Lea Ann spoke at many Internal Team Kick Offs, Team Captain Rally’s, on event Day and served as the 2008 Tri-Cities March for Babies Family Teams Chair.
Lea Ann also served as the Fund the Mission Chair for that year’s Signature Chefs event, and presented the Fund the Mission speech during the event.
In 2009 Lea Ann joined the Appalachia Division Board and continued on her journey to becoming the exemplary volunteer that she is today.
In 2009, while new to the Board, Lea Ann took on the role of Chair of the 2009 Wine Tasting Event.
Throughout 2009 Lea Ann laid the ground work for the recruitment of many key level volunteers, and companies that are still involved in Wine Tasting today.
Lea Ann has a passion for the March of Dimes, and our mission that shows through in all she does.
In 2010 Lea Ann accepted the position of Vice-Chair of the Appalachia Division Board.
While serving on the board, Lea Ann again chaired the Wine Tasting Event, with a significant Year-over-Year increase and exceeding budget.
It was during this year that Lea Ann accepted the position of Director of Move to Kingsport, with the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce.
With a natural talent for fundraising, community involvement, and a desire to raise awareness of the March of Dimes, this position was a natural fit for her.
Lea Ann has worked tirelessly over the past 2 years to bring key leadership to the Appalachia Division, and continues to be responsible for bringing on board some of the top leaders and companies involved with March of Dimes today.
Lea Ann’s involvement with the Appalachia Division continues to grow and her achievements, energy and vision have proven she is an exemplary volunteer in every capacity.
Lea Ann is the current 2012-2013 Appalachia Division Board Chair, and continues to go above and beyond the call of duty every day in recruiting volunteers, leading events, mentoring new volunteers, and providing outstanding volunteer leadership to all those around her.
Through her leadership, service and dedication Lea Ann is using her commitment to volunteerism with the March of Dimes to move the Appalachia Division forward and bring awareness of the March of Dimes and our mission to our local community.
She continues to be a role model for volunteers all across the State of Tennessee.

The 2013 March for Babies is sponsored nationally by the March of Dimes number one corporate supporter Kmart, Farmers Insurance Group, Macy’s, Cigna, Sanofi Pasteur, Famous Footwear, Actavis, Mission Pharmacal, and United Airlines.
In 2013, the March of Dimes celebrates its 75th Anniversary and its ongoing work to help babies get a healthy start in life.
Early research led to the Salk and Sabin polio vaccines that all babies still receive.
Other breakthroughs include new treatments for premature infants and children with birth defects.
About 4 million babies are born each year in the United States, and all have benefitted from March of Dimes lifesaving research and education.
