It's been a great spring for local wineries despite Saturday night's frost.
We stopped by Abingdon Winery Sunday to see how they protected their grape vines Saturday night.
We're told even with the warm weather these past few weeks, their vines have not budded yet, so the frost did not affect them. "We had such as cool April and really the end of March it was cold also. It takes several weeks before the ground temperature gets up to 50 degrees. As long as the ground temperature is under 50 degrees, the vines will basically stay dormant," says Robert Carlson.
Owners tell us the vines should start blooming in the next couple weeks; that's when frost can become a bigger issue.
