WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. -

Some local volunteers are lending a hand with the American Red Cross after super storm Sandy.

Two men from the mountain empire chapter of the American Red Cross loaded up an emergency response vehicle and headed toward Charleston, West Virginia.

We’ve learned the volunteers will be helping serve hot meals to people without power after the large amounts of snow paralyzed parts of West Virginia.

“It's very rewarding when you can be there and serve them and then they come up to you and tell you how much they really appreciate it," says volunteer Bobby Carver.

"We bring hot meals. They fix hot meals. We always serve hot meals and the people who don't have electricity or can't cook really appreciate us doing it," adds volunteer Eddie Thompson.

We’ve learned about six volunteers from the Mountain Empire Chapter of the Red Cross have provided assistance after Sandy and two more are getting ready to leave Friday.
