Local volunteer fire department selling Christmas trees
As the holidays approach many people start decking the halls with wreaths, trees and lights.
A volunteer fire department in our region is ready to help you decorate for the season. For nearly a decade the volunteer fire department in Sulphur Springs, Tennessee has been selling holiday decorations.
“It is kind of odd for this location to sell Christmas trees, but we came up with it about eight or nine years ago to start selling Christmas trees for a fundraiser,” says fire chief Keith Ellis.
The profits from the trees and wreaths go back to the fire department for equipment.
Customers say they they're glad that the money being raised is going back to help the local community. "We live here about a mile down the road so we came down here wanted to do business with them,” says customer Joe Loven.
“Because they're out here risking their lives for us doing a really good thing, so we should always help out the local community,” adds customer Tracy Jones.
It doesn't stop at just selling the trees, but the volunteer firefighters trim and prepare the trees as well.
They’ll even deliver trees for customers. “We do free local delivery. We’ll strap it on your car, we'll put it on the stand and if you need us to we will carry it into your house,” adds Ellis.
Chief Ellis says it's just another way to serve the community while making sure customers have a very merry Christmas. "We know this time of year you got so much going on, so if we could just do something to make things a little easier for you with Christmas tree choice then we are happy to do that,” adds Ellis.
The Sulphur Springs Fire Department will be selling trees and wreaths up until Christmas Eve, or until they run out of trees.
