A local organization reaches out to the community by trying to stop an illness before it starts.
Good Samaritan Ministries, along with the Johnson City Community Health Center, has given around 40 flu shots this year; all of them free of charge.
LPN Joshua Ragan told us the more flu vaccines that are given, the better off the entire community is.
"We're trying to be proactive with the flu now reaching the epidemic level. We're really pushing the flu vaccine this year. It's five times worse this year than it was last year," said Ragan.
Ragan went on to say you can catch the flu well up until late spring, so it's not too late to get a flu shot.
Good Samaritan had flu shot clinics Friday and Monday.
