Local Boy Scouts hang grocery bags to help the hungry
You may have noticed an empty grocery bag hanging on your front door Saturday morning. It's part of the annual "Scouting For Food" food drive.
Boy Scouts in our region were going door-to-door hanging empty grocery bags in the hopes homeowners will fill them with canned goods.
Things like pasta, diapers, and non-perishable food items will be donated to the Bristol Emergency Food Pantry.
We tagged along with one group excited to help out. "It's the 25th anniversary for our district so you do hundreds, hundreds, and hundreds of houses," said Life Scout Ren Blackard."
"The empty bag means it's a chance to put food in it, it's a chance for someone to give, and it's a chance to feed somebody, to feed a family that might be in need," said Boy Scout Kolbe Bush.
We've learned only 20 to 25 percent of the homes usually fill bags. Boy Scouts will be out collecting bags next Saturday.
