We've learned from Sheriff Gary Parsons that it was 56-year-old Hurley Eugene Underwood that fire a gun at 19-year-old Caleb Lawson, before killing himself.
According to the Sheriff, Underwood asked Lawson to help him dig a hole for a deer trap. Parsons believes Underwood intended to Kill Lawson and bury him in that hole.
He says Underwood fired the gun while Lawson was digging, hitting him in the arm and shoulder.
Underwood said he shot him for "ratting him out".
He then left the scene, and shot himself in the parking lot of Lee County High School.
Sheriff Parsons says Underwood was a sex offender that had been released from prison, and that he had contacted a family member telling them that he was not going back to prison.
