BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. -

A massive drug operation nears its end in our region.

In a press conference Tuesday, local, state, and federal officials emphasized the importance of collaboration in shutting down a major drug conspiracy in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

U.S. Attorney William Killian said an investigation with at least 60 cases, began four years ago involving members of a gang out of Detroit known as "'da' family” conspiring to sell drugs in our region to finance their gang operation.

"This case is the worst of the worst. It is armed and violent; gang members selling drugs like OxyContin and cocaine, laundering money over one million dollars," said Killian.

Killian said the drug supplies came from south Florida and Detroit, and were likely sold here because of less competition.

Killian added some of the defendants were local while some were not, and there is one defendant left to be sentenced.
