Laid-off coal miners receiving help from federal government
The U.S. Labor Department is helping out-of-work coal miners in Eastern Kentucky.
We've learned the department will use a $5.2 million grant to fund re-employment services for miners who have been laid off their jobs.
The Labor Department says the money will also help spouses of coal miners in the region who are looking to get a job.
The grant was awarded to the Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program. The program will train out-of-work miners and spouses to work in other industries in the region.
