KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

A Kingsport man is in jail after he's accused of abusing and raping a baby.

Shawn Lee Wray faces aggravated child abuse and aggravated child rape charges.

Detectives tell us Kingsport police were called to Holston Valley Medical Center on Monday about a child abuse investigation. They said they found a six-month-old child being treated for severe injuries.

"The victim did sustain severe skull fractures as well as damage or injuries to indicate sex abuse," said Toby Wells, a detective with the Kingsport Police Department.

27-year-old Wray is accused of abusing and raping the baby. Detectives tell News 5 Wray is also facing charges for being in violation of the sex offender registry.

Police say he was previously convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl.
