Kent Harris takes the stand during retrial

ERWIN, Tennessee -

A former sheriff on trial takes the stand for the second time.

Former Unicoi County Sheriff Kent Harris is accused of stealing money from the county. His first trial ended in a hung jury.

We were in the courtroom as he gave his side of the story.

Former Unicoi County Sheriff Kent Harris wants to clear his name.

"I didn't steal one dime from Unicoi County," Harris told the jury.

Harris is charged with stealing $4,500 of county money, and it boils down to cars and bloodhounds.

Tom and Lynn Colbaugh testified earlier they donated cars to the sheriff's department..

Harris said he and the couple had multiple conversations about them not donating, instead, selling the cars to the county.

"That is the absolute truth," Harris emphasized.

Harris also told the jury the Colbaugh's money from the cars was intended to be used to train a bloodhound for the sheriff's department, and he claims it was the Colbaugh's who wanted it kept in his safe.

"They wanted it kept in a safe place, which I did, too, and I would've had no problem if [Lynn] had kept the money," said Harris.

During the cross-examination prosecutors questioned why the money wasn't then given to county officials when it was for dog training, after Harris testified the dogs were believed to be county property.

The state also questioned why no one saw Harris put the money in the safe.

We learned all testimony wrapped up Thursday afternoon.

Friday morning, the jury will hear closing statements, and then they will start deliberating.
