Johnny Wood wins Rotary award

Johnny Wood was awarded with the Paul Harris Fellow Award Tuesday at the Rotary meeting in Bristol.

Wood anticipated speaking to the group, but was blind-sided when told that he was receiving the award.

During his speech he talked of his career and told the audience of the advice that he was given when he first began his career in television.

"There's already a Walter Cronkite, and there's already a Chet Huntley and Dave Brinkley, if you remember those guys," Johnny said. "Just be yourself and I have been Johnny Wood all those years."

Being Johnny Wood has served this local celebrity well. Wood was also awarded the Silver Circle Award in March at the Mid-South Regional Emmys in Nashville.
