BLACKSBURG, Va. -

Virginia Tech's football team is honoring the Sandy Hook Elementary School victims.

The Hokies had a tragedy of their own on campus after a shooting in 2007.

In response, they are wearing a large ribbon on the side of their practice helmets.

The Roanoke Times reports the decal is half green for Sandy Hook and half orange for Virginia Tech. The number 58 in the center is for the number of combined victims in the shootings. It also has the word prevail on it.

The Hokies will take the field against Rutgers on Friday with smaller versions of the decal on the back of their helmets.
