The Governor of Tennessee is hoping to help farmers in Hawkins County after April's freeze. Eligible farmers can apply for low interest loans, lost income recovery, and disaster assistance from the USDA Farm Service Agency.
News 5 checked with the Hawkins County Extension Office and learned most farmers absorb losses when frost hits during the spring and help like this is good news. "Agriculture here in northeast Tennessee is still a big part of the economy, so it helps the producers and it just helps overall economy for this area," said Bob Moncier the Extension Agent.
Governor Haslam hopes this assistance will help crops in both Hancock and Hawkins Counties.
