Governor: No Medicaid expansion for Virginia
McDonnell sends letter to U.S. Health & Human Services Secretary
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has ruled out a Medicaid expansion for the Commonwealth.
Under fire from conservatives in his own Republican party, the governor says the expansion of the federal-state health program is his prerogative, and it’s not up to a commission.
McDonnell agreed just before the legislature adjourned to let a commission assess whether daunting reforms, which are necessary to expand Medicaid, had been met.
Without it, Senate Democrats would have doomed his signature transportation funding legislation.
