Governor Bob McDonnell has announced Red Sun Farms will invest a total of $30 million to establish its first U.S. high-technology greenhouse production operation in Pulaski County.
In a press release, the governor's office says the company will erect climate-controlled greenhouses on 45 acres of land in the New River Valley Commerce Park to grow quality greenhouse-grown vegetables.
Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Todd P. Haymore says, "Virginia is already one of the nation's top producers of tomatoes" The project will create 205 new jobs within five years.
Red Sun Farms is the first tenant of the New River Valley Commerce Park. The company is headquartered in Michoacán, Mexico. Virginia competed against Tennessee for the project.
