KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

After nearly five years, residents on Gibson Mill Road, in Kingsport, are getting an early Christmas present.

The construction on the road was because of efforts to improve the roads around the Holston Valley Medical Center, costing the city nearly $7 million.

This money went to constructing two round-abouts, widening the road and replacing the existing bridge.

Gibson Mill Road was re-opened Monday and the residents in the area were happy to use it.

"Cause when I leave out, I can just go straight up and go up Center Street and go on to work," said Betty Thompson.

While the road is open, we learned the work is not quite done.

Minor sidewalk work, top soil placement and clean-up work will continue.
