Johnson City-based General Shale is known for its brick manufacturing, but today it's known for something else -- the company has donated 32 refurbished Dell computers and Fujitsu scanners to Mary Hughes School in Piney Flats.
Those computers will be used by students in Kindergarten, first and second grades. Teachers say the students will be able to use them for math, reading and more.
Kristine Hagy, an art teacher at the school, says the computers are a "huge benefit" to students because they "replace older models that were too slow and not being used."
Not only did General Shale donate computers and scanners, they also had their IT experts come install them at the school.
General Shale CEO Dick Green says the company realizes it is difficult during these economic times for schools to get newer computers, so his company was glad to donate.
