Four local tourism projects get grants

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell announced grants for more than three dozen local tourism projects in the Commonwealth Monday, including several in our area.

Governor McDonnell says grants totaling more than $543,000 are being awarded to 37 projects for marketing initiatives.

Here in our region, we've learned the Smyth County Tourism Association will receive $45,000.

The Barter Theatre will get $25,000. The Abingdon Convention and Visitors Bureau will receive $14,500.

The Appalachian Sustainable Development will get more than $12,000.

The Crooked Road was awarded $5,000.
