A former Tennessee Valley Authority vice president is facing charges. He is accused of violating international law and making false statements to the TVA.
57-year-old Masoud Bajestani was indicted on four felony charges by a Knoxville grand jury back in December, and he pleaded not guilty in court on Monday.
Bajestani is accused of filing a false document with TVA in order to withdraw $1.5 million dollars from his deferred compensation account while employed at the Watts Bar Unit Two nuclear plant during its construction.
The indictment accuses Bajestani of conspiring to send $600,000 of that money to Iran for investment purposes.
That violates international economic sanctions.
If convicted, Bajestani could spend up to 25 years behind bars and face more than a million dollars in fines.
