Fleeing suspect indicted
Was shot in shoulder by officer
An Elizabethton man has been indicted for allegedly assaulting a law officer in November of 2012.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation presented its case against 31-year-old Keith Lynn Brummit to the Carter County grand jury last week. On November 13, 2012, two Carter County sheriff's deputies were trying to serve warrants on Brummit in the parking lot of a Johnson City store. They say Brummit ran away and after one officer caught him, a scuffle began.
Brummit allegedly choked the officer and tried to get his service weapon. That's when the officer grabbed his gun and shot Brummit once near the shoulder.
Brummit was treated at a hospital as was the officer who had minor injuries.
Brummit is in the Carter County jail where he was being held on unrelated charges. His bond for the alleged assault of the officer is set at $30,000.
