Family remembers 4-year-old killed while crossing the street
A memorial sits a the corner of Broad Street and Lynn Avenue in Elizabethton at the scene of a deadly accident.
Thursday afternoon four-year-old Joshua Holston was crossing the street with his mom and cousin when he was hit by a dump truck.
"My nephew got across and me and Josh were walking across and Josh was not even from me to there and I heard the diesel start up in the truck and I said no, stop! I said stop, my little boy's right there and he started up and hit him," says Tiffani Holston
The accident is under investigation by the Elizabethton Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team. According to an incident report from police the dump truck was making a left hand turn onto Lynn Avenue when Joshua was hit.
Charges have not been filed in the case. Investigators tell us they'll likely take evidence before a grand jury in December.
While crews continue to search for answers the Holston’s are searching for peace from a parent's worst nightmare.
"We were just going on a walk yesterday. We didn't know nothing like this was going to happen," adds Holston. "He liked to go fishing and catch crickets and go to his nana's and go to work with his dad."
Because the dump truck involved in the crash is a commercial vehicle, blood tests are mandatory for the driver.
We've learned those test results are not yet finished, but police in Elizabethton say there is no evidence of drug or alcohol being a factor in this case.
