A 24-hour man hunt for 22-year-old Danny Deloach came to an end Thursday afternoon when Deloach crashed what police say is a stolen truck.
"Mr. Deloach wrecked his vehicle on Denton Valley Road and then another brief foot pursuit ensued and Mr. Deloach was taken into custody." Sgt. Brandon Tweed with the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Department adds.
It all started Wednesday afternoon when Deloach ran from custody while being taken out of the Washington County, Virginia courthouse. Deloach was there for a hearing on grand larceny charges.
Police say at the time Deloach shook his way out of shackles and quickly changed out of his jail uniform, something police found parts of just down the road from the courthouse.
Police used helicopters and K9 units in an attempt to track Deloach, but we learned calls from citizens lead police to Thursday’s pursuit. "Numerous sheriff's office vehicles and U.S. Marshals were involved also,” adds Tweed.
The chase ended on Denton Valley Road, a few miles from where it began. "Whitaker Hollow is a gravel dirt road, pretty much one lane, it was fairly dangerous," adds Tweed.
Once captured police got a look inside the truck Deloach was driving. They found a case of beer and some cigarettes. Police are still trying to find out how Deloach got those items, along with the clothes he was wearing. “From what I can tell, he was wearing blue jeans when he was taken into custody," adds Tweed.
The Washington County, Virginia Sheriff's Office says Deloach is now facing several additional charges including eluding police and escape.
Deloach was back in jail without bond Thursday evening.
