ETSU football return approved by TBR
Board of Regents approves fee increase to fund football
The Tennessee Board of Regents has spoken and in a vote Friday morning they decided football should return to East Tennessee State University.
The board voted to approve a $125 student fee increase that had been recommended by the ETSU Student Government Association.
President Brian Noland told us Thursday his staff would get to work immediately on plans for re-establishing the program.
University officials say they plan to release more details about the program early next week.
They also tell us they estimate spending about $4.9 million a year on the program.
They say a team would not be fully functional until 2018.
You may remember the Bucs playing in the Mini Dome but that program was shut down in 2003 after losing a million dollars a year.
A decision on where the team will play has not been released. The university has also not yet hired a coach to lead the program.
