By It was a drizzly drive for travelers on Christmas Eve.
"The drive wasn't very pleasant, but not too bad. Traffic is light, but a lot of drizzle makes it hard to see," said Terry Smith, a driver from Radford, Virginia. "Overall, it's not too bad."
Most people passing through at the Visitor's Center in Bristol, Tennessee were making day-trips and driving just a couple hours throughout the region.
An estimate one-in-four Americans are going to be making some type of a road trip.
Drivers said the rain isn't wonderful to drive in, but at least it's not snow. "I'm wishing it were snow for a white Christmas because I don't think I've seen one in a long time, but I'm not the one driving the car," said Emmaline Smith, a passenger.
And the gas prices are helping to make the season bright and cheap. "The prices are better than last year or even a month ago," said Terry Smith said.
Gas prices have dropped nearly 12 cents over the last two weeks. The average cost of a gallon of regular is now $3.26, according to the latest Lundberg Survey. In the last 11 weeks, gas prices have fallen by 58 cents a gallon.
