Meeting basic needs like food and shelter can be tough for many families. That's why one group is raising awareness about the growing need for diaper assistance.
It's National Diaper Need Awareness Week and Bristol, Tennessee and Virginia are taking action. The Tri-Cities Diaper Ministry is asking the community to help stock up for families in need.
Executive Director Samuel Jones told News 5 in the past six months the ministry has given out nearly 20,000 donated diapers to non-profit agencies, but each month the agencies request more. "Some parents can't even afford diapers. They will actually come up with these make-shift diapers out of grocery store bags, Saran Wrap, toilet paper or paper towels," said Jones.
Diapers of all sizes are needed, including adult diapers.
They can be donated at the Bristol Ministry Mall on Washington Street in Bristol, Virginia.
